Get to know us
Do you ever get that restless feeling? Not just the urge to escape your routine or leave your hometown, but a deep curiosity to actually see the world for what it really is? We believe that backpacking (especially on a budget) isn’t just a way to see the world. It’s the best way to understand it.
Welcome to Life To Remember. We’re here for the travelers who want more than just a list of sights. You’re looking for the social context, the local stories and the honest insights that make a journey possible. Our goal is to bridge the gap between low-cost travel and deep cultural insight, helping you move through the world with intention.
Hi! We are Emma and Johanna
Welcome to our blog „life to remember“
Our story starts in a small village in Austria. We’ve been best friends since kindergarten and even though life took us into different directions, we always found our way back to each other.
That genuine connection is the heart of everything we do.
It started with small trips to France and the Netherlands, our first taste of freedom. Then, out of the blue, we started dreaming bigger: Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand. We’ll never forget the look on people’s faces when we secretly booked a one-way ticket to Melbourne. Nobody thought we’d actually go, but that trip changed how we see everything. As we traveled, we realized that the most meaningful moments weren’t the perfect ones. They were the ones where we learned something new about a culture, navigated a tricky budget situation, or had to confront our own perspectives as travelers. We realised that we didn’t just want to visit places, we wanted to respect them and grow from them.

If you asked my friends to describe me, they’d probably say I’m “always on the move.” Traveling has been my biggest dream since I was a little girl flipping through my mom’s old photo albums from Australia. Now, at 22, I’m finishing my degree in Tourism and Leisure Management which gave me the change to live in Sweden and Paris during my studies, which only made my love for travel grow even more. And honestly I feel like this is just the beginning.
I’m the kind of person who makes friends in every corner of the world. I love that I can hop on a flight across Europe and have a familiar face to meet on the other side. Keeping those connections alive is what makes the world feel small and welcoming to me.
My Role on the Road: I’m the strategist and planner. I’m the one who spends hours researching the best itineraries and finding those “hidden gems” activities at each stop. I usually handle the bookings including flights, sorting out transport and literally leading the way to our next location, making sure that everything runs smoothly.
- My Vibe: I’m a mix of high-energy and quiet focus. You’ll either find me trying out a new sport or being creative at home – crocheting, painting or making handmade magnets for my fridge.
- My Daily Rituals: I’m a vegetarian and a bit of a nerd when it comes to finding niche, ethical brands. I love a healthy lifestyle, usually with a matchad that I’ve made myself.
- My Obsessions: Formula 1, motorcycles, reading, journaling, going to the gym, running, hiking and finding peace by a lake or in the mountains. I also love music and spending as much time as possible with my friends.
For me travel is about more than just ticking countries off a list. It is about the people we meet along the way and the moments we experience together.

JOHANNA

If you told me a few years ago that I’d be living in Vienna, giving regularly presentations in front of people and backpacking through the mountains of Peru, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. But lately, I’ve learned that the best things in life happen when you decide to do it scared.
I’m currently living in my favourite city, sharing a (lowkey amazing) apartment with two of my best friends and our dog Luni. After years of searching for my right path, I realised how essential this blog is to me. So much that I decided to study Corporate Communication, bringing everything I’m learning at uni straight back into this community. Since I’ve realised that I grow the most when I’m pushing my own boundaries, I’m pretty much always ready for the next backpacking trip!
My Role on the Road: I’m here for the vibes. I spend my time searching for the best vegan food spots and capturing moments through photography and video. I’m the one spending hours on Instagram stories so everyone else can comfortably repost, but I’m also part of handling the itinerary and finding the best hostel options.
- My Vibe: I’m all about romanticising the journey, even the messy parts. Whether I’m thrifting for second-hand gems in a foreign city or soaking up the atmosphere in a local plaza, I love the unfiltered side of traveling.
- My Daily Rituals: As a passionate vegan, I love finding the best plant-based food wherever we are. When I’m not on the road, I love spending my time in cafes working on the blog or studying for uni. I also use pilates to get my head free, or just take a timeout with my friends to recharge.
- My Soundtrack: I’m basically always listening to music (and lowkey disappointed if I’m not in charge of the playlist). I love going to concerts and as a sidequest, you’ll sometimes find me working at events, just to be near the energy.
I want this space to be more than just travel tips. It’s about proving that you don’t need a huge budget or a fearless personality to go out and see the world for yourself.
Together we want Life To Remember to be your roadmap for traveling with a conscious heart and a backpacker’s budget. We’re all about transparency. That means we don’t just show you the sunset, we talk about:
- Authentic Experiences: We share the real highs and lows, from the scams to the moments of pure magic with people we just met.
- Budget & Planning: We provide the “how-to”. You’ll find cost breakdowns, budget transparency (including fair tipping and local price context) and the practical tools you need, in order to feel confident on the road.
- Travel with Intention: We believe travel is an opportunity for growth. We dive into topics like “Passport Priority”, supporting local ethical projects and how to explore responsibly without losing the adventure.
Our mission is to help you create a life to remember through travel that is honest, culturally aware and accessible. We’re so glad you’re here to be part of this community.
Lots of Love, Emma and Johanna
